Well who would have thought, this time last year, we would be in quite this situation! In these testing times more than ever its necessary for you to really think about how your business IT is set up to run. How well is your business really coping with remote working in this new business landscape? You may have a good plan in place already that is allowing you to keep your business moving forward even through this disruption. Or unfortunately you may have discovered that your work from home software is just not up to scratch (Which is of course something we can help with). But have you considered the question of you IT support and how this can be remote as well? Let’s face it sooner or later something will inevitably break. So, how do you do Remote IT Support?
The good news is there are a number of ways. The IT term covers a wide range of methods, but here at Aidens Ideas, we focus on most effective, and cost efficient.
Remote Agents:
This is a small piece of software that allows someone remotely to take control of your machine. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds, we promise. What it does mean is that skilled technicians can help you with your issue, either by looking at your screen as you show them what’s wrong, or by being able to take over and fix the issue for you. This is especially useful for those quick fixes, or when you are struggling with a ‘I know how to do that, I just can’t think how’ problem.
Remote Management:
One of the big concerns right now, is falling victim to a cyber-attack. There has been a noticeable increase in nefarious people trying to take advantage of this unusual situation. Hackers generally will look to compromise systems that either are out of date and have a known flaw or have poor security. When we Remote Manage your machine part of what we do is make sure it has all its patches, the Antivirus is up to date and that you have your data encrypted. These are the IT problems that business generally should think about. We also provide a remote monitoring solution that reports to IT technicians exactly what’s going on with your machine so we can ensure that any issues are identified and addressed before they can be exploited.
Remote Data:
So what if the worst happens and you lose your machine? Either to a rogue cup of coffee, or some unethical hackers? Well the best thing to do, regardless of the other tools is to back up your information. Data runs businesses today, from your client list, to invoices and beyond. If you only keep this information in one place you need to address that quickly. You have a number of options, either pop this information on external storage like USB sticks and hard drives, or place the data in the Cloud. For us, the Cloud is the preference here. It allows you to access the data you need on any device as long as you have the right credentials. This means that your data and devices are separated, which provides extra layers of security and redundancy. So if that cup of coffee does its worst we can send a new machine out to you so you can simply pick up where you left off.
In the long term, remote support is not the only answer. Networks, hardware failures and local applications are all almost impossible to support remotely. Sometimes you do need someone there to plug that thing in or replace that mouse or get into that server, but for the majority of your support and security needs, and to get you through these unprecedented times remote support is a great answer. It’s faster, more cost effective and offers superior service to always having the IT guy turn up on site. And now more than ever, being able to address issues faster, and at whatever location you are in, has to be a good thing.
